After almost fifty years in business, I believe that one's mindset is the critical determinant of success. Correspondingly, the absence of a healthy mindset may be a predictor of failure. Education is not as important. Raw talent or intellect is not as important (the world is full of talented, educated derelicts). One's mindset is the key. But what does 'mindset' mean?
There are a number of components to a successful mindset. It may be that your 'why' is probably a basic or essential feature of one's mindset. In other words, what is the reason that you have for pursuing a particular goal. Your 'why' has to be a compelling force, one that keeps you going when someone with a 'why' that is not quite as strong may be tempted to quit.
Do you think of yourself as successful? As a winner?
One of the lessons of 'self-image' psychology is that your concept of self is another key component that determines whether one will be successful or not. In other words, do you think of yourself as capable? As a winner? As Henry Ford once said 'whether you think you can or you can't, you're right'. What does that mean exactly?
It means that, like the little train in children's story books, if you think you can, then you probably can. If you think you can't, the extent of your achievements in life will be circumscribed or limited by your limited thinking!
WHAT IS YOUR 'WHY'?
If you embark on a venture solely for the purpose of making money, you should think again. Online marketing is difficult as any business is. If you are just in it for the money you think you are likely to make, you're in it for the wrong reason. You will not have the motivation to keep going when the sledding gets tough and the odds are you will quit. Again, you need to have a strong 'why' to navigate what can sometimes be choppy water.
Avoid 'shiny object' syndrome!
This is a trap that, I would guess, most 'newbies' fall into. It simply means that the beginner jumps from platform to platform thinking that this 'one' is the platform that will take her or him to the "Promised Land". Shiny object syndrome is a sure-fire recipe for failure since involvement in any business requires focus, determination, some patience and the development of some level of expertise in that business. This cannot be done if you are jumping from one affiliate offer to another.
Finally, do not expect to become a whirlwind success overnight! Contrary to what some unscrupulous advertisers suggest, do not expect to be making $100,000 per month within months of getting started. Like any business, online marketing requires time, patience, diligence and perseverance. Even with a great system like The Three Steps, you will need some time to develop a following. There is no such thing as an 'overnight' success. Remember too that people do business with people they know, like and trust. Building solid, long-lasting customer or client relationships takes time. Your integrity is something that is absolutely critical to your success but, unlike the time it takes to develop a business relationship, your reputation for integrity can be lost in a heartbeat. False or unrealistic income claims, spamming and other forms of unethical business activity will quickly earn you the reputation of someone with a lack of integrity. In short, reliance on the "Golden Rule" is the best advice. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Go the 'extra mile' when that is called for. These are the principles that lead to success.
